Therapeutic Groups are developed on an ongoing basis, depending on the outcome of consultation and identified demand. Some groups are facilitated in partnership with other organisations, from both the statutory and voluntary sectors. The group work currently provided includes:

  • Stress Management
  • Creative Mind
  • Open Mind
  • Healthy Walk
  • Reading Group
  • Young Peoples' Drop In
  • Mental Health Awareness
  • Depression Management

Depression Management
Our depression management group is based on the core principles of Cognitive Behavioural therapy. The groups are facilitated by two members of staff and take place on a weekly basis over a ten week period. The groups enable individuals to learn and develop the skills required to identify and challenge unhelpful thinking and behaviors that may be lowering mood. Groups take place during the evening to enable those who are currently in employment to access support.

Anxiety Management
The anxiety management group takes place weekly over eight weeks. The group looks at anxiety, panic, stress and self esteem as well as helping individuals recognise and challenge thoughts and behaviours that may be increasing anxiety as well as looking at things the individual can do to improve their own wellbeing.

Motherhood in Mind
Postnatal and antenatal support is provided in partnership with the early year´s mental health psychology team at local family centre´s. Groups take place weekly over a ten week period and look at issues that may impact on mental wellbeing such as anxiety, sleep, diet, depression, coping with change and the benefits of rest and relaxation.

Bereavement support
We currently provide a monthly bereavement support group that gives individuals the opportunity to share experiences, develop coping strategies and express feelings in a safe and confidential setting. This can lead to an increased sense of understanding and enable individuals to work through thoughts and feelings that may feel overwhelming, with the support of both staff and other group members.

Reel Therapy;Washington Mind has recently developed an exciting and innovative new group named 'Reel therapy', inspired by the work of Gary Solomon who wrote the book 'The motion picture prescription'.
