Staff and Volunteer Training
Washington Mind recognises the need for training not only for the future development of the organisation but also for the development of skills and knowledge for each individual. This has been highlighted in our recent training programme. By working in partnership with a number of service providers we have been able to both deliver and benefit from a range of training sessions. Training has been made available to other organisations within both the voluntary and statutory sector.
Recent training days have included an Introduction to Mental Health, Volunteer Inductions, Introduction to Cognitive Behavioural therapy, Safeguarding Adults and Children, CORE, Risk assessment, Working with Anger, Group facilitation and Deaf and deaf blind awareness training.
So far we have provided:

This training was delivered by Washington Mind to local junior schools and 6th form Health and Social care students in order to enable a deeper understanding of how mental ill health can affect individuals and families and how people can access support. The training also looked at the stigma surrounding mental ill health.
As part of the Mental Health Awareness Training programme, Washington Mind was invited to provide two training sessions for the Welfare Rights service in Sunderland. The focus of this training was to assist Welfare Rights staff in increasing their level of understanding in relation to mental ill health, available treatments and how to improve upon communication. Evaluations from the training provided excellent feedback.

"On reflection of my time with Washington Mind, Welcome to the real world, of real individual people, with real individual difficulties and real world lives! I have gained more "real" education in 30 days from service users and professionals involved with Washington Mind than I could from books in the three years of my degree!"
